Before her election to the Supreme Court in 2000, Justice Owens had many years' experience as a judge: 19 years as District Court Judge in Western Clallam County; 5 years as the Quileute Tribe's Chief Judge; and 6 years as Chief Judge of the Lower Elwha S'Klallam Tribe. To protect our highest court from political interference by special interests, we must put our best efforts into re-electing Justice Susan Owens.

In recent years, the Building Industry Association of Washington (BIAW), a group that has been called "the most ideological, right wing lobby in the Evergreen State," has organized to buy influence over the Washington State Supreme Court by electing their own hand-picked candidates.

In 2002 and 2004, BIAW spent hundreds of thousands of dollars electing their candidate, Jim Johnson, to the State Supreme Court. Now in 2006, they have again spent many hundreds of thousands to defeat incumbent Supreme Court Justices in their continuing effort to pack our courts: their hand- picked special-interest candidate Stephen Johnson is in a runoff campaign against respected State Supreme Court Justice Susan Owens.

Johnson has no judicial experience of any kind, at any level, anywhere. But he does have a legislative record that places him at the far right on social, economic, and environmental issues.

I am forwarding this advertisement for the position of Auditor, Snohomish County. Bob Terwilliger is resigning the position effective January 1, 2007 and according to state law and the county charter, the Snohomish County Council makes the appointment.

I would appreciate it if you would forward to members who may be interested in applying for the position. The individual appointed would have to stand for election in November 2007 to continue in the position.
