              This past Saturday, the Snohomish County Democrats celebrated the summer with their annual picnic.  Lillian Kaufer spearheaded the efforts for this event and did a terrific job!  Not only did she create an event where close to 300 Democrats rallied around the singing group “The Three Cord Progressives,” she also single handily held back the rain showers until everyone had left the picnic.
   
              Many of our Democratic elected officials came to celebrate the day with the “Party.”  The lead speakers were Jay Inslee, Congressman from the 1st Congressional District and Rick Larsen, Congressman from the 2nd Congressional District. Legislators in attendance were John McCoy and Mike Sells of the 38th Legislative District. John Lovick of the 44th Legislative District, who is also a candidate for the County Sheriff’s office was in attendance. From the 21st Legislative District were Mary Helen Roberts, and Brian Sullivan.  Brian is also a candidate for the 2nd County Council District attended our picnic. Former state legislator, Mike Cooper attended. Mike is also a candidate for the County Council, but in the 3rd Council District. Also in attendance was County Executive Aaron Reardon with his family.
              
              We had a number of local candidates for city council offices and other local offices. There was even an appearance by “The Chain Gang” a group of patriots spoofing Vice President Cheney and President Bush. 
   
              The food was delicious; burgers, dogs and apple pie. How more down home can you get.  Games for the kids and raffle prizes for the adults entertained everyone.  We want to give a special thank you to the Tulalip Tribe for the use of their Amphitheater for this event.
   
              There was a presidential “straw poll” taken by picnic goers and the results were John Edwards winning the top spot with Barack Obama a close second.  Hillary Clinton edged Bill Richardson by one vote for the third spot and the remaining candidates in order of votes were Kucinich, Biden, Dodd, and with a goose egg for Gavel.  
   
             Thank you for your participation at our picnic -- 2008 will be a grand event with your continued support!
