COMMUNITY GROUPS EXPLORE

WHAT'S MAKING AMERICA SICK

Showing of New PBS Film on Health Policies, Social Ills

On Wednesday, May 6th the PBS show Unnatural Causes: Is Inequality Making Us
Sick? will be the basis for a 2 hour community discussion on health
inequities. The first of two pilot events in Snohomish County will be held
in Conference Rooms A and B of the Providence Everett Medical Centers, 916
Pacific Avenue, Everett. The evening will begin at 6:30 pm with a light
supper and health screenings, followed by a showing of a 30-minute segment
from Unnatural Causes. This will be followed by a facilitated discussion on
putting equity into action. Action ideas that come out of these discussions
will be compiled and presented in a report to health care organizations in
Snohomish County. This FREE event is open to the general public. These
discussions are funded through a grant from Snohomish County Community
Mobilization and Washington State University Snohomish County Extension.

The Everett community discussion is co-sponsored by the Communities of Color
Coalition, Providence Everett Medical Centers, Everett Community College,
Snohomish County Medical Reserve Corps, Washington State University
Snohomish County Extension, Familias Unidas, South Everett Neighborhood
Center, YMCA of Snohomish County, REI, Korean Womens Association, KSER 90.7
fm, and Everett School District. The second community discussion will be
held in Monroe in June. If successful, funding will be sought to hold
additional community discussions in other areas of the county.
